Hi doctor, I’m a male student aged 24 years old, currently studying at a local university. Lately, I have been reading up on articles related to vitamin C being used on COVID-19 patients, does this means that it can also help to prevent us from catching the virus?

Indeed there have been numerous circulating rumours regarding the usage of Vitamin C as a cure or supplements that can prevent COVID-19 infections. However, these rumours and theories have been debunked by various established and authentic studies.
In short, no authentic and reliable study has been made to support and prove such theories for the time being.
For your information, although Vitamin C has been associated with several benefits, namely an immune system enhancer, high in antioxidants, reduces allergie’s severity and many more, it is however isn’t specifically able to act as a COVID-19 cure or prevent it’s infections. Further more, too much Vitamin C could also result in serious advers effect, such as
Nevertheless, WHO has approved that one of the best ways to fight the spread of COVID-19 and prevent new infections is through the formation of herd immunity via widespread vaccination and also by adhering to social distancing, wearing the mask and practising good hand hygiene.
