Hi doc, I heard in Singapore they change their treatment plan. They started giving aspirin and antibiotics to patients with COVID-19, is this true?

Hello and thank you for using our services.

We understand your concern about the matter in the change of treatment in Singapore and they have started using aspirin and antibiotics to treat their patient. We will try to assist you with this matter.

For your information, the statement about the change of treatment is untrue. We understand that this statement has been circulating via Whatsapp stating in Singapore, doctors changed their treatment protocol after an autopsy procedure. This is untrue and has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Antibiotics are used against bacteria while COVID-19 is caused by a virus, thus antibiotics won’t be able to treat or prevent COVID-19.

While aspirin is used to help hospitalized COVID-19 patients as it reduces the risk of blood clots, it is not a preventive medicine, and using it without indications can lead to side effects of excessive bleeding.

Using medications without proper consultation can lead to serious side effects and complications. The most effective way to prevent this is by getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

If you have any doubts and need assurance, you can contact our doctor via teleconsultation to get further information on this matter.

We hope this answer is able to help you understand further. Thank you.
