Do I need to go for covid-19 screening?
Hi doctor,
I am currently having cough and flu, but no fever. Today is my 3rd day since 10th March.
I’d like to get advice from you if you think I need to go for covid-19 screening due to following reasons:
My boss at work already went for screening since she was in a meeting with someone tested positive. My boss’ result was negative and I wasn’t identified as her close contact since we didn’t have any physical contact and we didn’t meet for more than 15 minutes. However, the meeting was held in my office building. (different floors from my place)
From 6 to 9 March, I travelled to Padang, Indonesia. There is no reported case from that area and Indonesia is not identified as high risk area yet.
I met a friend on 10th March. Today, I got news she is in self-quarantine since her colleague is currently waiting for covid test results. My friend has been having sore throat and fever for about a week now.
I’d appreciate your best advice on this matter. Thank you.

Thank you for your question.
First and foremost, I understand your concern regarding this issue of coronavirus since there’s an outbreak of the virus.
From your given situation I would advice you to answer the quiz on Risk Assessment for COVID-19 to evaluate your health status in regards to this disease. After completing this quiz, you will be classified into several categories with an advice on the next appropriate steps that you should take.
Nevertheless, you should watch out for your current symptom and development of any other such as
Fever
Shortness of breath
Body ache
Sore throat
Headache
In the meantime, it is very crucial for you to follow this step from Centre of Disease Control (CDC) to prevent from contracting or spreading the virus:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
