Gallbladder Polyp - Detected during Health Screening
Age:44
Gender:Male
Medical History:
- Cholesterol above average level for past 5 years, started 10mg medication 15 months ago when cholesterol level @ 7.2
- Sister passed away due to brain tumor 17 years ago
- Father passed away due to lung cancer 13 years ago
After an 8 year gap of not doing Medical Screening, I went for one recently. Cholesterol level at 4.0, urine test normal, ECG normal. A 0.3mm polyp in the Gallbladder was detected by ultrasound scanning of the abdomen.
The physician recommend for a yearly ultrasound as followup. Is it advisable to go to a specialist for detailed followup and are the other ways beside ultrasound. Googled a bit, and there are methods like Endoscopic Ultrasound, CT etc.
Thank you

Greetings,
Thank you for choosing us to get an opinion regarding your health issues.
Based on your explanations, you want to know other ways besides ultrasound are applicable to scan for gallbladder polyp. I will do my best to provide you with the related pieces of information.
For your information, a gallbladder polyp is a small, abnormal growth of tissue with a stalk protruding from the lining of the inside of the gallbladder. They are relatively common. There are 2 possible tests to diagnose the polyp and its size, which are:
- abdominal ultrasound (noninvasive)
- endoscopic ultrasound ( a little invasive)
If the size of the polyp is greater than 12mm, then your doctor will advise you to surgically remove your gallbladder.
I hope the above statement does help you in a way and if you need further assistance and explanations from us, you can talk to our doctor online. Thank you.
