i have sensitive skin.my face is full of acnes.i tried so many products and it’s still the same. What can i do

  • Hi, thank you for your question. Treating acne when you have sensitive skin can be quite difficult. This is because most products used for acne may be too harsh for sensitive skin. You will have to find a skin care regime that works on you without aggravating your skin.

  • Firstly, you should stay clear of all facial products that have fragrances, high concentration of alcohol or any astringent properties. Certain common acne remedies such as Vitamin C, alpha lipoic acid, salicylic acid may aggravate your sensitivity. Try them out at the lowest possible concentration first, to see if your skin takes it well before moving to more potent concentrations.

  • Use these products may be three times a week before incorporating it into your daily regime. People with acne are often advised to exfoliate to manage oil and debris in blocked pores. However, with sensitive skin, too much exfoliation may be too harsh on your skin. If you are using a scrub, find one that is mild and dermatologically tested and use it not more than twice in a week. With chemical exfoliators like AHA, BHA, and glycolic acid, try it first on the back of your hand to see if you react to it harshly. Use them cautiously.

  • A good daily facial cleanser is vital for your skin and to keep acne at bay. When choosing one, always read the packaging. Check if it is fragrance and soap free. Some skincare products comes with an alternative for sensitive skin. Make sure that it is also non-comedogenic which means it will not block pores.

  • Products should preferably be dermatologically approved. Brands like Cetaphil, QV, Physiogel, Neutrogena and Eucerin are affordable products that cater for sensitive skin Stop using products that make your skin itch, red, burn or sting. If possible, get a consultation from a dermatologist to further discuss your problem.
