  • Hi there and good day. Herpes is the name of viruses that usually cause painful blisters and sometimes a discharge. The most common viruses such as herpes zoster which can causes chickenpox and the can develops shingles, herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 and type 2 which causes fever blisters around the mouth and sores on the genitals or sexual organs. Lastly, genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

  • Once you gets the infection, you will carry the virus for the rest of the life. Many people who are infected with herpes never shows any symptoms. Sometimes the symptoms are just mild or moderate and are easily mistaken for another skin problems. The symptoms include painful lesions in the genital area, anus, buttocks, or thighs, painful urination, vaginal discharge and ithcing.

  • During the 1st outbreak, you can experience flu like symptoms. For example body pain, fever or high temperature, and headache. Many patients who have a herpes infection will have outbreaks of sores and symptoms like above from time to time. However the symptoms are usually less severe than the 1st outbreak. The frequency of outbreaks also tends to reduce as the time passed by.

  • So to answer your question, yes herpes outbreak can cause you to have an on and off fever. However the fever will not be severe enough as compared to the previous outbreak and it can be a mild one. Do report to your local GP if you develop a high fever with other symptoms of herpes simplex infections during an outbreak.

  • Good luck and thank you!
