Ear canal blocked and got some inflammation before
Hi, I am 27yo and my ear canal got blocked by some mucus liquid stuff started from half a week ago.
I think I got it infected when injured it when cleaning earwax. It swelled for about two days. Then last night, I feel the size slowly healing but the ear now is blocked by some semi liquid mucus/earwax. The substance is dark yellowish green. Should it be a concern?

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding the previous blocked ear canal due to inflammation, which is preceded with semi liquid dark yellowish green discharge. For your information, this earwax that you described usually represents old earwax that might be accumulated inside your earcanal.
However in your case, this discharge are mostly old cerumen that are mixed with pus from your previous infection. Below are the colour and types of earwax and what it represents:
- Yellow and soft: New earwax
- Dark and firm: Old earwax
- Flaky and pale: Older earwax that has moved to outside of the ear
- Blood-tinged earwax: Injury, scratching or side effect of vigorous earwax removal
- Runny and cloudy: Ear infection
- Black: Compacted earwax, earwax buildup.
You can easily get ear, nose & throat problems, but don’t let it get to you.
