Increase in Blood Glucose and Diabetes Medication

I was diagnosed with diabetes type2 last year October 2018 after I had a triple bypass. My doctor started me on Metformin Glucophage XR 500mg and I have been taking 1000mg a day. Lately, my insurance has lapsed and I am forced to transfer to a govt hospital, which is giving me an alternative brand - Inventia Progluterol Extended Release 500mg which I have been taking for about a week. I have also noticed my blood glucose has risen abnormally after meals. The side effects of the new brand has also been quite bad with dry bitter mouth, headaches. My GP suggests to increase my dosage because of the increased blood glucose but I am uncertain I should do so with this new brand. Should I go back to Glucophage and at what dosage? Please advise.
