Self harm and donating blood

Hi. I became interested in donating blood. Like honestly, I really wanted to help those in needs. I really really realllyyyy want to make a good deeds at least by donating the blood. However, I used to self-harm. I got some scars on my wrist. So… Am I still approved or acceptable to donate the blood? Or I better not? Looking towards the answer. Thank you

Hi, thank you for contacted us. We are happy that you want to contribute yourself in donating blood. This good deeds not only beneficial for you, but to everyone that in needs.

For your information, there is no problem to donate blood even you got scars on your wrist. If you afraid that you might get infected by microorganisms during your past , you might want to do a full blood screening first.

There are certain conditions that prevent a person from donating blood temporarily or permanently. Among the temporary conditions are:

  • Pregnancy
  • Acute fever
  • Recent alcoholic intake
  • Ear or body piercing and tattooing
  • Surgery

Persons with the following conditions are not allowed to donate blood anytime:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiac disease
  • Sever lung disease
  • Hepatitis B and C
  • HIV infection, AIDS or Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)
  • High risk occupation (e.g. prostitution)
  • Unexplained weight loss of more than 5 kg over 6 months
  • Chronic alcoholism
  • Other conditions or disease stated in the Guide to Medical Assessment of Blood Donors.
