Severe pain - Anal fissure

Hi. My wife is pregnant 6 months now. She has been suffering a bit with constipation. Whenever she have a bowel movement, she will come out with a severe pain at the anal area. We are suspecting this could be anal fissure. This has become common occurrence nowdays. She didn’t have this issue before pregnancy. Is there any over the counter medicine or ointment she can use for the pain? Or anything as a stool softener which is safe for pregnancy? Hope anyone could help
