Used econazine cream during pregnancy

Hi, im 35 and this is my second pregnancy, 6 weeks today. I used econazine once today for ringworm on my skin and i just learned that this cream cannot be used during pregnancy. I probably used it 2-3 time while pregnant. Im worried about my baby what will happen to the baby. I had no miscarriage previously and i have a 3 yr old son.

Greetings!

Thank you for your question. I understand your worries regarding your condition.

For your information, Econazole Nitrate has caused birth defects in animal studies. It should be used in the first trimester of pregnancy only when the physician considers it essential to the welfare of the patient. The drug should be used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy only if clearly needed.

Do not worry much for now, just look out for any symptoms below:

  • Bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Bleeding out product of conception

I suggest you to stop using the meds unless it is prescribed by your doctor. Do tell your doctor about this in your next check up.
