Blood test result explaination

Hi,

I recently got a blood test from local hospital and the result seems like pretty high? I have no idea. However I am curious on what these test name and the reading means.

TBILC
DBILC
ALT , which is flagged as H (I’m guessing it means High?)
ALP , also flagged as H
TP
ALB
GLO
A:G

I’ve been prescribed a Glumet DC ( I believe it’s Metformin HCI 500g tablet).

Thank you.
Regards,
Rain

Thank you for your questions. The following answers regarding your current queries are just general descriptions due to the limited information provided by you. Click on this link (DoctorOnCall) for a private consultation with our doctors.

To answer your question, some of the abbreviations used by the hospitals are not the same with others. TBILC, DBILC, GLO and A:G are not the common abbreviation used, hence we are sorry if we cannot explain these terms. However, ALT stands for Alanine AminoTrasferase while ALP stands for Alkaline Phosphatase. Both are liver enzymes and elevation of these values means there probably an inflammation happening in the liver or gallbladder either due to fats, gallstones or infection. ALB is albumin which is protein made by the liver and it measures the health of the liver. TP is Total Protein and again is looking for the general health of the liver. Metformin is a medication prescribed for diabtes type 2 as well as in some occasion people with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Blood test result should be looked in conjunction with the patient’s symptoms and signs as derangement in any of the lab values can be either due to human error, lab error or even means nothing if the person does not exhibit any symptoms and signs related to the blood test result. Therefore, if you are having any problems at the stomach, yellowing of the skin, fever or unintended weight loss, you are advised to seek medical help when you are able to do so.
