Covid-19 - close / casual contact sop
My colleague’s father was tested positive for Covid 4 days ago. Upon finding out, my colleague also went for a PCR test the next day and got the results 2 days ago, he tested negative while his mother tested positive.
I’m 40, I live with my wife, my parents(both 70+ yrs) and 2 kids (under 8yrs). We have all been fully vaccinated except for my kids.
I’ve self quarantined myself from my family immediately upon hearing the news from my colleague and have so far been isolated for 4 days without any symptoms. I’ve ordered a home antigen test kit from you guys and intend to test myself today.
If the test shows positive, I’ll continue with my quarantine.
If the test shows negative, do I need to continue with the quarantine? I’m not sure if I’m overdoing it since my colleague tested negative.
I’ve researched online and have inconclusive results. I’m not sure if I’m considered a close contact or casual contact.
US CDC says as long as I’m vaccinated, I don’t need to quarantine.
While other websites say to quarantine 14 days.
Can you please advise?

For your information, close contact are those who have a direct contact with a Covid positif patient for atleast 15 minutes, at less than 1 meter distance without a face mask. Casual contact on the other hand, casual contact are those who have been in contact with Covid positif patients but at more than 2 meters apart and for less than 15 minutes.
Based on your explanation, since your colleague has tested negative for the virus, you are classfied under casual contact. Normally, casual contacts have a very low risk of contracting the virus, compared to close contacts. Therefore, quarantine is not necessary unless you are symptomatic. You are however required to monitor your health daily and report if you start experiencing any symptoms for 14 days.
