Hi, thank you for your question.
Blood pressure reading shows 2 numbers. The first number is the systolic pressure. It records the pressure inside your artery when the heart contracts and pumps blood to other parts of the body. The second number is the diastolic pressure. It records the pressure inside your artery when the heart relaxes and starts to fill with blood.

A normal blood pressure is <120/80 mmHg. Prehypertension is when the systolic blood pressure is 120-139 mmHg and the diastolic pressure 80-90 mmHg. Hypertension stage 1 is when the systolic blood pressure is 140-159 mmHg and the diastolic pressure 90-99 mmHg. Hypertension Stage 2 is when the systolic blood pressure is more than 160 mmHg and the diastolic pressure more than 100 mmHg.

Hypertensive Stage 3 is when the systolic blood pressure is more than 180 mmHg and the diastolic pressure more than 110 mmHg.
If your blood pressure is normal, it should be checked every 1 to 2 years. If you are aged 40 and above, it is best to have it measured every year because your blood pressure tends to increase with age.

If your blood pressure is less than 130/85 mmHg, recheck in 1 year. If your systolic blood pressure is 130-139 mmHg and diastolic pressure is 85-89 mmHg, recheck within 3 to 6 months. If you have hypertension stage 1, recheck in 2 months. If you have hypertension stage 2, recheck in 1 month. If you have hypertension stage 3, recheck more frequently according to your doctor’s advice.
