Hi, thank you for reaching us at DoctorOnCall.

We understand your concern regarding the stool problems that you are facing. For your information there are various reasons why someone can have greenish stool and blood in their stool. This is only our general impression on why you are experiencing such problems.

Avoid the nuisance stomach problems with the right care for your digestive system.

Greenish stool could be that you are eating a lot of vegetables, due to food coloring or may be due to the iron supplement.

For fresh blood in the stool, it may be due to:

  • Hemorrhoid
  • Diverticulitis
  • Injury or tear to the tissue of the anus (trauma or fistula)
  • Colorectal cancer

Talk to a gastroenterologist to address your stomach problems and get their expert opinion.

Causes of black stool could be due to:

  • Peptic ulcer disease (Gastric or duodenal ulcer)
  • Esophageal varices
  • Esophageal tear (Mallory-weiss tear)
  • Cancer of upper gastrointestinal tract (esophageal or gastric cancer)
  • Iron supplements (it can also cause green stool)

Like we said earlier in the statement, this is our general impression. We cannot give you a definite diagnosis since you will need to be seen by the doctors for further history taking, examinations and investigations to know the exact cause.

If you have any more questions, you can contact our doctors at (DoctorOnCall) for online private consultation for clearer and better understanding regarding your condition. Thank you.
