0% fats, can a person survive with 0% fats in their body? What happens if a person have 0% fats?

I have been curious about this, can a person survive with 0% fats in their body? And if it can/cannot, why? What physiological consequences if the person have 0% fats. (Thank you for making time to answer my question, really appreciate it)

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us.

It is impossible to live without fat in the body because fat has its own functions, such as:

  • Providing energy (through gluconeogenesis or production of glucose using other source than carbohydrates)
  • Cold insulation which fats keeps your body warm in cool temperature
  • Shock absorber
  • Protect important organs

There are various functions of fats. Therefore without fats in the body, it would cause problems and affects the body physiologically such as no energy can be produced or the body is susceptible to heat or cold and could cause shock.

We humans still need a certain amount of fats in our body and what important is we need to control the intake of fatty and oily food as excessive intake of food rich in oil and fats may cause harm in the body.

This is only our general explanation regarding your question. If you need further explanation or clarification, you may consult with a dietitian or speak to our doctors via call at (DoctorOnCall). Thank you.
