Consumption of contraceptive pills simultaneously

Im planning to take Norculut pills to delay my menstrual cycle for a holiday. At the same time, I would also like to standby taking emergency contraception pill if accident were to happen. Is this safe?

Below are just an overview about emergency contraceptive methods available in Malaysia.
There are few types of emergency contraceptive methods available in Malaysia if one does not desire to get pregnant after unprotected sex:

  • Progestin only pills
  • IUCD (A device inserted into the woman’s private part)

Most commonly used is progestin only pills. It is will prevent 95% of pregnancies if taken within the first 24 hours, decreasing to 58% if taken between 48 hours and 72 hours after unprotected sex. Although you have taken it later than the usual time, as long as it is taken within the first 72 hours, the effectiveness will still be there.

You may also opt for other contraceptive method for example using combined contraceptive pill and barrier method.
