Hypertensive retinopathy
My mom is 65 years old. Few months ago, her left eyes having blurred vision. So i brought her to see eye specialist. The doctor diagnosed her eye got bleeding behind the retina, hence blocking the vision. After a month of follow up with doctor, my mom’s eye vision improve, doctor suggests to do lasik on that injured part. But my mom is too scare to perform surgery. She was having hypertension history, and just started medication to control blood pressure. May i know if is ok for her not to do the laser treatment? Any chance the bleeding might occur again or lead to blindness?

For your information, The Lasik, laser treatment for hypertensive retinopathy is a fairly safe and common procedure done everyday by the ophthalmologist. The general idea of the laser treatment is to perform a microablation to the microaneurysm and shunting blood vessels in the posterior pole of the eye ball to prevent the recurrence rate of the bleeding and to treat the hypertensive retinopathy.
The success rate of the Lasik is up to 95 percent; and the risk of causing blindness is 1 in 5 million cases. However, the risk of recurrence is also depends on the hypertensive control of your mother. Reports show that a better controlled hypertension will have a lower risk and recurrence rate of bleeding, hypertensive retinopathy.
