My stomach has been feeling uneasy for the past week

My stomach has been feeling uneasy for the past week which i guess due to gastric problems, but it has been occuring every single time after i ate a meal. Im worry

  • Hey and thanks for your question. First thing first, what do you mean by gastric problems? Was it stomach pain or diarrhoea or vomiting? Gastroenteritis is a very common gastric problem that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. It is usually caused by a bacterial or viral stomach bug such as e. coli, salmonella, shigella, c jejuni and campylobacter species.

  • It can affects people of all ages, but is particularly common in young kids. Most cases in children especially nowadays are caused by a virus called rotavirus. While cases in adults are usually caused by norovirus. Gastroenteritis can be very uncomfortable, but it usually goes away by itself within a week or so. You can normally take care after yourself

  • Try to avoid going to your GP as the first step, as gastroenteritis bacteria can spread to others very easily. f you have diarrhoea and vomiting, the best thing to do is stay at home until you are feeling better. There is no specific treatment to gastroenteritis. You don’t usually need to get any medical advice, unless your symptoms do not improve or there is a risk of a more serious diseases.

  • You can help to ease your symptoms by drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, eat paracetamol for any temperature or aches and pains and get a lot of rest. If you feel like eating, try to eat small amounts of carb foods, such as pasta, rice, and bread. Use special rehydration drinks made from sachets bought from pharmacies can often help if you have any signs of dehydration, for example dry mouth, dry skin or thirsty.
