Alpha fetoprotein result

Hi doctor. I am a 37 years old woman and I just did a blood test. The alpha fetoprotein result was 7.5 ng/ml below 8.1 ng/ml. Is it considered okay as it is only 0.6 away from 8.1? Might there be any underlying problem for having that kind of result? Thank you so much for you time :heartpulse:

Greetings! Thank you for your questions.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding your symptoms and other health problems you might be facing. For your information, an AFP tumor marker test is a blood test that measures the levels of AFP in adults. Tumor markers are substances made by cancer cells or by normal cells in response to cancer in the body. High levels of AFP can be a sign of liver cancer or cancer of ovaries or testicles, as well as noncancerous liver disease like hepatitis and cirrhosis.

An extremely high level of AFP in your blood which is greater than 400 ng/mL, could be a sign of liver tumors. Your test results may vary depending on your age, sex, health history, the method used for the test, and other things. Your test results may not mean you have a problem. Physical examination needed before a diagnosis.

The following answers regarding your current queries are just general descriptions due to the limited information provided by you.
