Can I take dengue vaccination if I’m pregnant?

Hi Dr, I’ve read online that getting dengue can be dangerous for my baby. I am pregnant and I am wondering can I take dengue vaccination if I’m pregnant?

Greetings and thank you for your question.

The safety and efficacy of dengue vaccination during pregnancy have not been extensively studied. Therefore, dengue vaccination is generally not recommended for pregnant individuals unless there is a significant risk of dengue infection and the potential benefits of vaccination outweigh the potential risks to the pregnant person and the fetus.

Pregnant individuals should consult with their healthcare provider before receiving any vaccine, including the dengue vaccine. Healthcare providers can evaluate the individual’s risk factors for dengue infection, consider the current epidemiological situation, and provide personalized recommendations based on available evidence and guidelines.

In situations where dengue vaccination may be considered necessary during pregnancy, healthcare providers will carefully weigh the potential risks and benefits and provide guidance based on the individual’s specific circumstances. It’s essential to have an open and informed discussion with your healthcare provider to make the best decision for your health and the health of your baby.

I hope this helps! You can let us know or make appointments with our doctors on DoctorOnCall if you have any more questions.
