Grandma showing symptoms of flu
My husband’s grandma is 81 years old. She is currently showing symptoms of flu such as blocked nose and feeling cold. Her son who lives with her currently has a bad flu and contracted it after being at a cinema. Should we bring her to the nearest hospital to get her tested for Covid 19? We’re worried cause she’s of old age and wouldn’t want it to escalate. Also, she has a medical heart history.
Please advise us! thank you in advance.

Greetings!
We understand your worries especially with the development of symptoms indicative but not exclusive of COVID-19.
For you information, WHO listed common symptoms for COVID-19 infection as follows:
- Fever (more than 37.5 degrees celcius)
- Fatigue
- Cough
- Aches and pains
- Sorethroat
- Headaches
- Shortness of breath
However, as you may already aware, these symptoms are not specific to COVID-19 but can be presented in other conditions such as in common flu and other infections by bacteria or other viruses.
Besides COVID-19, flu-like illness can be due to various reasons:
- influenza
- tonsillitis
- trauma
- Common cold
Nevertheless, we still need to assess your risk of COVID-19 infection. Therefore, your husband’s grandmother is encouraged to answer the quiz on Risk Assessment for COVID-19 to evaluate her health status in regards to this disease. After completing this quiz, she will be classified into several categories and further actions suggested will be provided according to the classification.
