Based on your description, the swelling has to be examined first to see for its consistency, colour, size and location. There are several reasons as to why there is a lump or swelling behind your neck such as:

  • Cyst such as sebaceous cyst
  • Lipoma - a grwoth of fat tissue
  • An abscess - a lump of white cells and bacteria after infection
  • Swollen lymph nodes - from infection or problems with white blood cells
  • Acne

If you develop other symptoms such as fever, losing weight and feeling fatigue, you have to see medical professionals for further assessment. Alternatively you can contact us by clicking on this link (DoctorOnCall) to talk to us privately. Thank you.
