Cough, blocked nose and mild fever

My son is having mild fever, cough and nasal congestion since 11th March. Took him to doctor who gave Antibiotic, but after antibiotic course is over his mild fever is again coming. Do I need to get him tested for Covid-19. Suggest what treatment I have to follow.

Greetings!

Thank you for your question. Based on your son’s symptoms of fever, nasal congestion and cough, he is encouraged to answer the quiz on Risk Assessment for COVID-19 to evaluate his health status in regards to this disease. After completing this quiz, he will be classified into several categories. According to WHO, the common symptoms of COVID-19 infection are:

  • Fever (more than 37.5 degrees celcius)
  • Fatigue
  • Cough
  • Aches and pains

Besides COVID-19 infection, his symptoms can be caused by other health problems such as:

  • Other bacterial or viral infection

He may be having remnants of fever due to his previous infection. You can continue giving him his fever medications to reduce his fever.
