Having recurrent of dry skin around the lips and on the lips

I’m 23 year old female. And February this year I have been having very bad skin issues whereby it started with my lips getting too dry till it was reddish all the time, it bleeded and I couldn’t even talk or smile properly. Then the condition spreaded to the outer line (around) of my lips and also at the sides of my lips. After around 3 months the skin around my lips area started to dry and peel while also leaving some discolouration. The condition persisted even though I had gone to the Pusat Klinik Kesihatan around 2 times and the finally I went to a private clinic whereby the Dr diagnosed me on having extremely dry lips which also the dry skin around my lips area was due to low zinc and vitamin B whereas I was having angular cheilitis too at the same time. After taking some tablets, steroid creams and also an injection, my condition seemed to improve with once in awhile dry and flaky lips but then after 2 months or so I started having back the reddishness around the outer line of my lips again and today it started to peel off and there seems to be some tiny rashes like on my lips.

Greetings! Thank you for your questions.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding your symptoms and other health problems you might be facing. From your complaints, we believe that your condition may have multifactorial causes such as:

  • Genetic dry skin
  • Some people are sensitive to sun. Sun exposure can cause lip dryness
  • side effects of medication such as Vitamin a supplement, chemotherapy
  • side effect of skincare products (skin too sensitive)
  • low intake of water per day (suggested : minimum 2litre per day)

If you start to notice ulcer, red/ dark discoloration of the lips with white plaques, immediately seek for help.
