Hi, thank you for the question. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic condition, and living with multiple sclerosis can be challenging. Keeping your body fit and healthy helps you to cope better with multiple sclerosis. However, maintaining a healthy weight can be difficult for a multiple sclerosis patient. You can have weight gain or weight loss throughout the course of the condition.
Weight gain is more common among multiple sclerosis patient, whereas weight loss happened more often in advance or severe diseases. As in you case, you are having weight gain. The steroid medication taken during each attack can cause weight gain in the long term if you are having frequent attack. Even in a patient with infrequent attack, multiple sclerosis makes a person feels fatigue and becomes less active.
This slows down the metabolism in your body and body weight increases. Besides that, the on and off pain and dizziness affect your mood and ability to perform physical activity. Having this condition can pose psychological stress to one person, and come people resort to eating as a way to relieve the stress.
Always talk to your healthcare providers if you are having these problems. You can try some lifestyle modifications such as regular exercises and healthy eating. A short walk around the park daily will make positive impact on your body and mind. As you gets stronger and better, you can try bicycling, yoga or cycling.
Try to eat more omega 3 rich food, vegetable and fruits. Vitamin B supplements are helpful in your nerve conditions. If you have any queries, please talk to your doctor. Have a good day !!!
