Neuropathy Problem without Diebatic

7 years ago, feel sudden numb on right leg, slowly travels down, had full checkup at Sunway hospital, doctor could not advise anything, never even tell if that is nerve problem or whatsoever. Today, numb goes even to left feet. Can walk, if without shoe, bottom of feet will be pain. Toes feel tingling. A month ago accidentally bump into a research paper and video about pseudo B12 in Spirulina. https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf990541b this is the link, and I have been taking spirulina for more than 20 years. Wonder if Spirulina cause deficiency in B12 and if yea, what is the fastest way for me to recover my nerves.

Hello, thank you for your enquiry.

For your information, the symptoms you having such as tingling and numbness may have several causes. For example:

  • Spinal injury
  • Slipped disc
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Vascular disease
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency (usually affect both limbs, from down travels upward)

Other than that, spirulina contains pseudovitamin B12, which unable to be utilize by human’s body and does not affect human’s body. It will not cause vitamin B12 deficiency.

To find out the cause and diagnosis for your case, a more detailed history is needed, as well as a proper clinical examinations and relevant investigations.
