Acne and skin sensitivity

Hi im 22 years old women would like to ask about medication for backacne. Is tretinoin or adapalene can be used for backacne? Because ive tried many remedies such as sulphur soap but its not working. I also have sensitivity to water where after shower i have red rash and itching skin all over my body, and i wonder if that contribute to my backacne. I hope dr can recommend me some medication for my backacne. Thank you so much.

Greetings! Thank you for your questions.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding your symptoms and other health problems you might be facing. For your information, body acnes are caused by blocked pores which can be blocked by oil, dead skin, or a bacterial infection. They can be driven by several factors which includes:

  • Excess oil production on sebaceous glands or excessive consumption of oily food (fried in particular).
  • Clogged hair follicles by oil or dead skin.
  • Poor skin hygiene which cause bacterial infection
  • Hormonal factors: excessive secretion of androgens.

We suggest you to do the following tips :

  • Prevent eating fried food, refined sugars, and fast food.
  • Maintain good facial and general hygiene
  • Clean your bedsheets, towels and anything that comes in frequent contact with your face
  • Prevent spicy food
  • Stay hydrated and moisturize your face sufficiently.
  • Acne treatment body wash or cleanser -Choose a body wash containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide
  • Medicated lotions or sprays- add a medicated treatment lotion or spray to your treatment routine, if cleansers aren’t helpful. You may use one that contains either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

Body acne is stubborn, so if the breakouts aren’t going to get any better with the tips listed above, you will need some prescription treatments to get those breakouts under control. Thus, you are greatly suggested to see a doctor for a prescription acne treatment especially if your acne is severely inflamed to prevent any lasting scars. .

Depending on your situation, doctors may prescribe a topical treatment, oral medications, or both. Some common treatments are:

  • Topical retinoids
  • Oral antibiotics
  • Isotretinoin (Accutane)
