Breathing problem and cough out sputum

I work as one of the volunteers for a community of refugees here in Selayang. Recently i have had a breathing problem and cough out sputum. I developed a high fever a day after I visited one of the refugee home. I am not sure if the refugees have underogone vaccination programme or not, but is it possible that i have contracted some infection over there?

  • Hello, thank you for raising your question here. You have reasonable grounds to feel worried about these symptoms that you are experiencing now (fever, cough, sputum, and breathing problems). The crowding of many people in a single space has been linked to many types of diseases, and the possibility of contracting an infection is there.

  • Considering your circumstances and the symptoms that you are experiencing sounds considerably worrying, the best way to proceed would be for you to seek help from a doctor as soon as possible, especially if your symptoms are not getting any better. By getting proper medical attention, a full history and examination can be obtained.

  • This will help in getting to the right diagnosis in order for you to receive the appropriate treatment. If your doctor thinks it is necessary, he may order some tests. This is necessary to confirm or rule out certain diseases that may be related to the symptoms you are experiencing. The symptoms (fever, cough, sputum, and breathing difficulty) may just be due to a simple viral infection, but it is always better to be on the safe side.

  • If you are still taking part in the same volunteering position at this moment, be sure to wear proper attire (if there are protective wear), and always observe good hygiene such as washing your hands and do not cough in the direction of other people. In the mean time, you should get plenty of rest and drink a lot of fluids to help your body fight off the infection and recover from the fever.

Do you know that your immune system plays role in the effectiveness of vaccines?
