Hello and good afternoon. Thank you for your questions.

We truly understand your concerns regarding your breathlessness that occurred particularly when lying down which accompanied by headache, dizziness and blurring of vision or eye pain. These symptoms that you experienced recently might be related to each other somehow.

For your information, your shortness of breath is a type of symptom that is known as Orthopnea which specifically occur when lying down (compared to Paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea which cause breathlessness during sleep), and can be caused by certain diseases such as:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Respiratory disorders such as emphysema
  • Obesity and high cholesterol levels.
  • Respiratory infections which can cause pleural effusion (fluid buildup around the lungs)
  • Pulmonary embolism, which blood clots are formed at your lung’s blood circulation and cause blockage.
  • Obstructive sleep apnea which can be caused by various causes such as neurological disorders.
  • Hypertension.
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or Asthma

Don’t wait until you get the symptom. Take care of your heart starting NOW.

However based on your situation, it is most likely to be related with a heart condition that needs further investigation. Any cause can be included, but it depends on your medical and past history that needs to be evaluated by you attending physician. You also might experience other symptoms such as, bluish discolouration of your fingers, swelling of legs or hands, confusion and feeling nauseous. Do not to worry, early intervention might help in treating your underlying condition.
