Hello there! Thank you for your question regarding these procedures. For the general population reading this, I hope you wouldn’t mind me first explaining the purpose of the anti-ageing procedures mentioned above. Botox injections, which contain botulinum toxin, work to minimize or even eliminate facial lines. It relaxes wrinkles and folds to give the skin a plumper, youthful looking appearance.
Laser treatment on the other hand, and I believe that you are referring to laser resurfacing in particular, works by polishing the skin surface, evening out pigmentation and erases fine lines. To answer your question, yes, combining both these treatments are safe and overall produces better results for facial rejuvenation as compared to just one treatment alone.
Now that your main question has been answered, we should proceed to the question of administration of botox before or after the laser treatment. This is usually left to the preferance of the medical practitioners. There are two schools of thoughts on the matter. Some prefer to inject botox at least a week before the laser treatment.
They believe that by doing this, it keeps the muscle forces that act on the skin to cause wrinkling to be at rest, and following that, the laser treatment allows new collagen to form. The other school of thought is to wait a week or two after the laser treatment.
The reasoning is that besides the fact that driving heat into the skin may compromise the injectables, the laser treatment would also be able to lessen the amount or change the location of filling injections needed, as the laser procedure by itself is expected to improve the skin.
Based on clinical studies, it’s perfectly fine to do botox injections before or after the laser treatment but it is definitely advisable to schedule the treatments at least two weeks apart. We wish you all the best with your treatment!
