Rectal Bleeding and Nocturnal Enuresis

A lady in 20’s presented with these:

  1. Bipolar Disorder Type 2
  • on Epilim (day 200mg, night 800mg) and Sertraline (night 25mg)
  1. Rectal Bleeding
  • Noticed blood when pooping, brick-red in color, no mucus noticed, occurred in two consecutive days.
  • minimal straining when pooping
  • Stool was mushy and watery most of the time
  • One of the two days, noticed dark greyish-black spot on the stool
  • Recently the frequency of defecating increases to once or twice per day (previously twice in a week)
  • After pooping, feeling like it’s not emptied but nothing came out when trying to poop again
  • Feeling pain at the anus sometimes
  1. Nocturnal Enuresis:
  • Happened once a week for three consecutive weeks, not a dream-induced
  • no significant change in drinking habits at night

They’re all happening almost within the same week(s). BDII was diagnosed in August 2020.

Should I be concerned? Are these symptoms showing urgency to seek for professional help?

Really appreciate your time and kindness to respond to this question. Looking forward to that. Thank you!

Hello and thank you for addressing your concern.

Avoid the nuisance stomach problems with the right care for your digestive system.

According to your statement, we believe it is still too early to assume all of the various symptoms are related to one another. However, any form of rectal bleeding should be consulted to a doctor and would require further assessment to determine the right treatment of action. At the same time, you ought to consider consulting for the other recurring symptoms such as nocturnal enuresis and the ongoing mental health treatment.

Occasionally rectal bleeding can be caused by:

  • anal trauma or fissure
  • rectal or bowel infection
  • oncological related ailments

Nocturnal enuresis on the other hand can be caused by brain, kidney or bladder control related issues.
