Sense of smell and taste

Hi Dr, recently I started to lose my sense of smell and taste. I have taken Covid19 test on 6/4/2020 and was tested negative. However, recently I start to lose my sense of smell and taste. Seek your advise on this. I am 3o years old

Greetings!

Thank you for your question. For your information, a blocked nose or flu can affect your sense of smell. This is because the mucus blocks your smell receptors. Hence, you may have difficulty in smelling and even tasting as your sense of smell is related to your sense of taste. According to WHO, the common symptoms of COVID-19 infection are:

  • Fever (more than 37.5 degrees celcius)
  • Fatigue
  • Cough
  • Aches and pains
  • Sorethroat
  • Headaches
  • Shortness of breath

You may consult a MOH doctor by clicking Ask Doctor at the Ministry of Health website (COVID-19 Portal) to ask any health issues related to COVID-19 starting from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.

After 5.00 pm till 12.00 am, please direct your enquiries to our DoctorOnCall website at this link https://www.doctoroncall.com.my/tanya/.
