Insomnia / difficulty to sleep

I am 38yo single male. Since past few months, i have an issue so called insomnia. Its very difficult to sleep at night. The best that i get was snap sleep within 10 to 20minutes. Then will stay awake for few hours. It affects my daily routine and my eyes look so tired (panda eye). I’ve consulted a doctor but none sleeping pills provided. Advices on changing daily routine etc already done. My concerns :
How to get sleeping pills? I believe i need that at least half of the pill for start (small/less dosage/MG)
Can it be bought at nearest pharmacy or need a doctor prescription?
I need a medicine instead of psychology advices which are not helping much.
Please advice doc! Tq
