Skin Conditions - Possibility About Fungal Infection

Hey doc, I am a 16 years old guy. My skin is itchy especially at the genital area. It won’t go away and I need to scratch it so often that it is starting to hurt. I look it up online and i think it could be fungal infection. Can you please tell me more about it? Thank you

Greetings. Thank you for your questions.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding your symptoms and other health problems you might be facing. From your complaints alone, we can’t come to conclusion if it’s fungal infection. There are other condition that can cause itchiness of the skin such as:

  • Eczema: usually due to allergies
  • Ringworm
  • Dermatitis: An inflammation of the skin that can be caused by allergies to chemicals usually in cleansing products
  • Psoriasis

On top of that, it is advisable for you to not scratch your skin. This might cause cut and could introduce infection to the area. This would worsen the condition.

The following answers regarding your current queries are just general descriptions. In order for us to provide you with an accurate diagnosis and next appropriate choice of treatment and management, we need additional details to explore further into your current complaints. Therefore, we greatly suggest that you inform your parents about your problem for them to refer this to your nearest medical doctor.
