Hello and thank you for using our services

We understand that you want to marry someone with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and wants to know the possibilities and probability to pass it down to your children, is this correct? Don’t worry I will try to assist you with this matter.

Spinal muscular atrophy is a genetic disease characterized by weakness and wasting of muscle. If an individual with spinal muscular atrophy marries an individual without the disease or does not have the genetic for the disease, the child will be born as a carrier.

A carrier means he/she will carry the gene but will not be affected by the disease or develop any symptoms. Instead, carriers can pass down the gene to their children.

Spinal muscular atrophy can occur in a 25% chance when both parents are carriers or carry the gene.

If you have any other inquiries please let us know. You can contact our doctor via teleconsultation for more information.
