Speech Development of 23 months old baby

Answered by: Dr Sashini Seeni

Hi Doctors. I’m a mother of a 23 months old baby girl. My daughter is active, she can understand what people ask to do. But there is something that keep running in my mind. My daughter just can say 1 word, word per word. She can’t make a sentence yet, even 2 words for example “nak makan, nak susu”. If she wants something she just said 1 word, like “makan, mandi”. Is it normal for her age? I’m afraid that she got speech delay. Thanks in advance Doctors!

Greetings! Thank you for your questions.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding this matter. For your information, some milestones of 23-month-old baby may have hit or may be working on speech probably saying 50 words or as many as 100. Besides, saying sentences of two to four words, and is listening closely, learning up to 10 new words each day.

A speech-language delay may administer tests and analyze the child’s speaking abilities before diagnosis. Plus, to counsel parents on ways to stimulate language development. You are suggested to seek a pediatrician if you are concerned about this problem.

Give your little ones the medical attention they need. Speak to a pediatrician to discuss your child’s health problems.

However, the following answers are just general descriptions.
