Toddler stool become bright yellow and runny

My 2 year old son stool has been firm before, although he poops several times a day, with only a small amount.
Recently he had a slight fever for 3 days then diarrhoea for a day. He didn’t show any discomfort during diarrhoea. Now he poops once a day, but his stool has become bright yellow and runny. We did not change his diet although now he shows lack interest in usual food like rice and chicken and prefers the formula milk. Has been 3 days already. Is that normal? How to change consistency of his stool? It’s usually a lot until spills out.

Hello and thank you for the question given

We understand that you want to know if your son’s bright yellow and runny stool is normal and a way to change the consistency of his stool, am I right? Correct me if I’m wrong about your concerns.

For your information, bright yellow and runny poop can occur in formula-fed toddlers but in a case where it becomes more frequent than usual and extremely runny, it could be diarrhea. Some of the common cause of diarrhea in children are:

  • Infection such as viral gastroenteritis
  • Food poisoning

Some other serious causes of diarrhea that needs immediate attention are:

  • Irritable bowel disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Food allergies
  • Celiac disease

Because of the fact, your son has had a fever and diarrhea we strongly suggest for you to talk to our doctor via teleconsultation to know more about your son’s condition.

I hope this explanation helps you in any way possible. Thank you
