Uneven toe nail (ridges?)

I am a woman in my 20s and I noticed that my big toenails on both feet has a small portion of ridged/uneven (horizontal) area. They are both on similar places (L:top right corner, R: top left corner - hence like a mirror image). I was wondering what could this be caused by? I haven’t been going out at all recently thus I don’t think its due to pressure on it (shoes or anything of those sort).

Greetings! Thank you for your questions.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding your symptoms and other health problems you might be facing. From your complaints, the multifactorial causes are:

  • toenail fungus
  • ingrown toenail
  • toenail trauma
  • other toenail problems

However uneven toenail might not be that serious illness. However, you need to see a doctor if you experience signs of infection, such as redness, severe pain, or drainage of pus. Besides, any red or black lines down the nails also require an evaluation by your doctor.
