Itchy and painful bumps/pimples in the scalp

I had itchy and painful bumps/pimples/sores in my scalp that dont seems to go away with non-steroid and steroid cream, antiseptic cream and organic oils etc. At the same time I also have itchy pimples that come and go in various part of the body. After trying out all sort of cream and lotion I took Betamox 500mg for 3 times a day for 5 days. After the 2nd days I could feel and see that the bumps in the scalps were recovering and the same also for the one in the body. By the 5 days, all were mostly gone and by end of a week all were gone. However, it only lasted about two weeks and now I could see three bumps in my scalp and some tiny itchy pimples on my body and limbs. Questions: 1)Should I continue with the antibiotics cos it seems to be effective? 2)Should I take a stronger antibiotics and for a longer period of time? 3)I believe it is bacteria infection in the blood, how do I find out or confirm?

Hello. Thank you for your inquiries.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding on your itchy bumps on your scalp and other parts of your body that have been going on. You have informed that you have been using a few product and medications to treat your current problem.

For your information, papular/vesicular itchy rashes on the scalp has a wide range of diagnosis that can be concluded. It is best to be consulted after a good visual examination of your skin problem by an attending dermatologist. However, we might have some general idea regarding your problem:

  • Contact or seborrheic dermatitis. May be caused of an overeactive immune response or an allergic reaction
  • Actinic keratoses
  • A skin infection called Mosculum Contagiosum, which causes raised bumps or lesions.
  • Lichen planus is an autoimmune disorder caused by viral infections, allergens, stress or may be due to genetics. They are described as itchy purplish lesions or bumps and blisters or crusts may be present.
  • Seborrheic dermatitis may appear as a reddish rash with greasy yellow crust.
  • Itching bumpy sores can be caused by a bacterial infection. This may lead into two things: folliculits or impetigo.
  • Follculitis is the bacterial infection of damaged hair follicles. This may be caused by excessive plucking or shaving of the hair, frequent touching of the scalp, or having a hot or damp skin all over the time.
  • Impetigo is a skin infection by a bacteria called streptococcus. This bacteria may infect the skin dermal layer by any previous skin injury.
  • Herpes zoster or shingles is a known adulthood skin condition. They are caused by a previous viral infection of the same which caused the chickenpox.

We assume that whatever skin condition you are experiencing has to be related with a bacterial infection, given of your past history of using Betamox, an antibiotic. Betamox is an antibiotic medication to treat streptococcus or staphylococcus infection. However, you are aware that the antibiotic efficacy on your condition is lesser by the day. This is maybe due to a bacterial resistance that may develop overtime towards said medication.
