Private HIV ART Treament in Malaysia - Confidentiality
I am a 34 year old male and I may have been exposed to HIV during intercourse 8 days ago with a female sex-worker as the protection that I was wearing came off but I continued with the vaginal penetration for several more minutes after that. I was unaware of post-exposure prophylaxis and was unable to begin a PEP course within the 72 hour post-exposure window. I am currently waiting for the 8-week and 12-week windows to get myself tested with Rapid Test Kits. In the event I am diagnosed as HIV positive, I want to know what options there are for private ART therapies in Malaysia. I am concerned about the employment discrimination of HIV positive individuals and so if found to be HIV positive I would like to avoid disclosing my status to the government. What options are there for HIV positive individuals in Malaysia to seek a complete ART therapy while maintaining anonymity of the HIV status?

I understand you concern regarding the issue of confidentiality of your medical condition. In general, the federal and state laws require that a person’s HIV status be kept confidential. You should not worry as doctors must oblige to the law and if they fail to do so, you may report this the authority. For your information, you have the right not to disclose your status unless your job involve a risk of transmission to others such as healthcare worker.
