Kidney removal biotin intake and pregnancy risk

Hi doctor. I have one kidney. I had remove my kidney on 2016 due to the right radical cystic adenocarcinoma. But both my kidney function well. Just i had to remove due to the cancer root attached to my kidney. So. I want to ask. Recently i do loss hair quiet frequently and i can see my scalp clearly. So if i take biotin 600mcg, is it ok for my kidney to process or is it too much? And does this kidney scenario effect my pregnancy if i want to conceive very soon?

Hello!
Thank you for contacting us regarding your question.

Based on your explanation, we understand that you have undergone surgery to remove one of your kidneys and you want to take biotin supplements for hair loss. You also mentioned that you are planning to conceive and want to know how your kidney situation can affect your pregnancy. We will try to help you out.

Regarding biotin supplements, it is best for you to speak to a doctor who can review your medical history and kidney function before deciding if it is safe for you to consume it. This is because biotin is excreted by the kidneys and considering that you only have 1 functioning kidney, it might take a longer time to flush out the supplement. Regarding the pregnancy, it is advisable to seek an obstetrician’s advice as pregnancy with 1 kidney can be categorized as high risk. During pregnancy, you may experience some complications such as pregnancy-induced hypertension. You can talk to our doctors online if you have further questions or if you need further advice.

We hope that this answer has been helpful.
Thank you.
