Sudden sharp pulling pain on left chest

I experienced a sudden sharp pulling pain on my left chest - I wasn’t doing anything strenuous, was cooking while on a call. The pain was quite painful that I crouched to the floor and it lasted maybe between 10-20 seconds. I realised the back of my neck sweated a little after the ordeal. Was worried if it could be a heart attack or stroke. I am a female aged 36 years old.

Hi and thank you for contacting us

We sincerely understand your concern with your current discomfort. From your complaints, we believe that your chest pain may have multifactorial causes such as:

  • Gastrointestinal tract disease (i.e. GERD, gastric, etc)
  • Cardiovascular or heart-related illness (i.e. stroke, angina, etc.)
  • Pneumonia or other lung infections
  • Abdominal pain radiating to the chest
  • Pain originating from the chest wall (i.e. rib cage) muscle or nerve pain

As there are many causes, without a full history and examination, it is advised to see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and seek appropriate treatment. In order for us to provide you with an accurate choice of treatment and management, we need additional details to explore further into your current complaints. Therefore, we greatly suggest that you refer this to your nearest medical doctor. You may also click on this link (DoctorOnCall) to speak with our doctors online. We assure you that our conversations are kept in confidentiality unless additional consultation needed with other medical parties. Thank you.
