Hi for HIV treatment for HIV+ patients, I was made to understand due to covid 19, hospitals now don’t do this but only klinik kesihatan administers hiv treatment. May I know if this is true and if yes how should I seek for immediate treatment becuz klinik kesihatan can take weeks to set an appointment

Good afternoon and thank you for your question!

We appreciate that you made your queries to us eventhough it is a personal and sensitive question. We also would like to support you in anyway as you are trying your best to get best treatment for HIV.

We do not have any information hospitals do not administering HIV treatment due to COVID-19. We also do not have the knowledge at the moment where only Klinik Kesihatan are available to administer HIV treatment. Therefore, we urge you to get yourself to the nearest hospital or Klinik Kesihatan for you to get treatment for any health difficulties that you are facing.

We understand that you require urgent treatment for HIV. However, we need further information regarding how was the HIV being transmitted and when did you suspect you have HIV. We also would like to know if you have been diagnosed with HIV and if you are sexually active.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that can makes the immune system weak. Our immune system aids the body to fight off against infections. Untreated HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) can reduces and kills CD4 cells, which called as T cells which is a type of immune cell.

Over time, as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) kills more CD4 cells, the body is becomes more weak and more likely to get various types of infections and even cancers.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is transmitted through bodily fluids that include blood, vaginal or rectal fluids, semen, breast milk but the virus does not spread through air or water or just a normal contact. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a lifelong problems and currently there is no absolute cure, although many doctors and others are working to find one.

However, with medical management, including treatment called as an antiretroviral therapy, it can manage HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and live longer with the condition for many years. Without treatment, a patient with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is likely to develop more serious condition called as AIDS.

At this point, the immune system is too weak to get rid off other infections and diseases. If left untreated, life expectancy with AIDS is about 3 years. With antiretroviral therapy, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) can be well managed and life expectancy can be nearly the same as people who does not have HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).

For your information, Post-Exposure Prophylaxis works by stopping the virus from replicating after recent exposure. The cells originally infected with HIV will die naturally within a short period of time, reducing the likelihood for HIV to establish itself in the body.

From your complaints, I would recommend you to talk to a doctor at the hospital for post exposure prophylaxis if it is a high risk sexual activities because the status of HIV in the other partner is unknown. You would need to meet their criteria before starting the treatment and you’ll need to start it within 72 hours or sooner than that after being esposed.

The following answers regarding your current queries are just general descriptions. In order for you to know more in detail, we greatly suggest that you refer this to your nearest medical doctor.

Enjoy a beautiful moment with your loved one safely.
